Canmore Jazz, Banff Centre Present Collaborative Concert

The Canmore International Jazz Festival, which ran its inaugural festival and ongoing concert season this past year, has proven to be a popular community presenter, showcasing the finest in regional and international jazz in the small mountain town that lies nestled in the Canadian Rockies. The Canmore International Jazz Festival will run June 21-23.

In collaboration with the Banff Centre’s International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, Canmore Jazzfest will present the last of its ongoing concert series, featuring a sampling of the international music students from the Banff music program. The concert will take place St. Michael’s Church Hall at 7:30 pm in Canmore.

Two-time Grammy-nominated trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas was appointed director of The Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in 2002, and under his leadership, the jazz workshop has taken a new direction with a focus on facilitating the creation of original music. Douglas has been named trumpeter, composer, and jazz artist of the year by such organizations as the New York Jazz Awards, Down Beat, Jazz Times, Jazziz, and the Italian Jazz Critics’ Society, and has released 21 CDs featuring his working ensembles. Douglas’s ensembles have toured widely since 1994, performing at major jazz and new music festivals across the world.
