Yardbird Suite Blues
Acoustic bluesman showcased at the Yardbird this weekend
Delta blues guitarist Mark Sterling makes a return to the Yardbird Suite this weekend for the first time since the late ’90’s, performing solo as part of the club’s blues music series.
With an 18 year career behind him, Sterling’s material ranges from the 1920’s pre-war traditional blues classics of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Blake to original compositions from his solo recordings, instrumental pieces played on the National Steel and 12 string guitar, and a little harmonica thrown in as well.
Sterling is more recently recognized for his work with the collaborative acoustic blues revue “Come On In My Kitchen,” hosting the revue for the last 8 years. Mark has shared the stage with John Hammond, and performed for Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan in 2003.
A session musician and producer for other artists, live highlights in the past year include appearances at the Edmonton and Vancouver Island folk music festivals, and Alberta Scene at the National Arts Center in Ottawa.
