Canada’s “Prime Minister of the Blues” Lives On
The Dutch Mason Blues Festival is scheduled to take place in Halifax this August 10-12 at the Truro Raceway and Exhibition Grounds, with three days of star-studded regional and international blues.
The annual festival is named in honour of “Canada’s Prime Minister of the Blues” Dutch Mason, who passed away in December, 2006 after a lengthy illness.
Topping the headline roster are blues guitar legends Buddy Guy, a five-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, James ‘Superharp’ Cotton, Grammy nominee and Blues Hall of Fame member, and blues-rocker Kenny Wayne Shephard, whose latest recording features guest appearances by blues giants Hubert Sumlin, B.B. King and more.
An equally impressive list of Canadian talent shares the bill, including guitarist Sue Foley, as well as Matt Minglewood, Theresa Malenfant, and Garrett Mason, who are slated to perform a Tribute to Dutch Mason on the Sunday.
Other performers booked include Truro natives Charlie A’Court and the McCready Brothers, along with Morgan Davis, Joe Murphy and the Waterstreet Blues Band.
More artists are to be announced in the coming weeks.
