Pianist Returns to Perform for 10th Anniversary
Oliver Jones, the internationally renowned Canadian jazz pianist, will be returning to Markham’s 10th Annual Jazz Festival to headline the event’s Anniversary Gala on Saturday, August 11th.
Jones, who was the headline act at the first Markham Jazz Festival ten years ago, will be performing “up front and close” in an intimate setting at the Frederick H. Varley Art Gallery, and will also take part in a meet and greet with the audience before and after the event.
Oliver Jones is considered one of Canada’s finest jazz musicians. He began performing publicly at age five, and by the time he had his first nightclub appearance, he was nine. Oliver Jones’ six-decade musical career has been rich and varied. His classical music education was followed by stints at Montreal’s Café St.-Michel, enthralling patrons with his acrobatic piano stunts. And that was the start of remarkable career. In November 2005, Canada’s Governor General Michaelle Jean, honoured Oliver as the recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts awards for lifetime artistic achievement.
The Markham Jazz Festival runs August 17-19.
