Tinidad’s Eleye de Cuba Will Heat Up Summer Night
Regina jazz, in conjunction with the SCES and Blues Sky Cultural Connections, presents the Canadian premiere of the Latin group Eleyé de Cuba, on Monday, July 30 at the Exchange in Regina.
A collaboration of eight Cuban musicians from the historic Caribbean coastal town of Trinidad, Eleye de Cuba incorporates a broad range of traditional and contemporary Latin and Afro-Cuban musical styles encompassing salsa, son, trova, bolero, and jazz, as well as their own original compositions.
The group showcases the individual and combined talents of the traditional band Septeto Eleyé with vocalist Liliett Alarcon and Ancelmo de Jesus Rabi on the traditional Cuban trés guitar. All of the musicians in Eleyé will be available for instrumental or dance lessons.
The band will be joined by guest percussionist David López Garabito, El Señor de las Tumbadoras, whose performances with Hecho en Cuba in 2006 resulted in many avid fans across western Canada. David, who is also from Trinidad de Cuba, will again be available for his very popular percussion workshops and lessons.
