Oliver Jones to Make Rare Concert Appearance

The Huntsville Festival of the Arts, a year-round multi-disciplinary arts festival, celebrates their 15th Anniversary in 2007. As part of the celebrations organizers have added a new jazz component with the launch of the Huntsville Jazz Festival, which gets underway today and runs through August 5th.

The headline roster features some of the finest in Canadian jazz, with pianist Oliver Jones, vocalist Molly Johnson, pianist Hilario Duran, and tonight’s presentation of the ‘Giants of Jazz’ with special guest Guido Basso. All evening concerts take place at the Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville, Ontario.

The Jazz Festival will run over four days throughout the community with various performances throughout the day, including the Jazz Festival for Kids presentation at the Huntsville Public Library with Erick Traplin and Junior Jazz on August 2nd.

Thursday, August 2 – 8:00 pm

Giants of Jazz with special guest Guido Basso

Multi instrumentalist Don Thompson is joined by Pat LaBarbera (saxophone), Dave Young (bass), Archie Alleyne (drums) and Reg Schwager (guitar) to form a Canadian jazz supergroup. Special guest, master flugelhorn/trumpet player Guido Basso, joins the group to make this a special evening of traditional jazz.

Friday, August 3 – 8:00 pm

Hilario Duran & Havana Remembered

One of the greatest virtuoso jazz pianists to emerge from Havana, Hilario Duran played for nine years with Arturo Sandoval and has shared the stage with legendary musicians like the late Dizzy Gillespie and composer/arranger Michael Legrand. He and his eight piece Salsa band will make tonight a musical celebration

Molly Johnson

Molly Johnson has earned her reputation as one of Canada’s greatest voices… Whether rocking standing-room only audiences in nightclubs and bars from coast-to-coast as a pop artist, or seducing patrons of salons and lounges with her luscious interpretations of jazz and blues standards, Johnson is the real deal.

Sunday, August 5 – 8:00 pm

Oliver Jones

Legendary Canadian jazz pianist in a rare concert appearance. Showcasing his unmistakable finesse, lightning fast technique, and rollicking rhythms, Oliver Jones will deliver a memorable evening of music.
