Concert to Feature Students, Faculty and Guest Saxophonist Ralph Bowen
Mount Royal College’s Summer Jazz Workshop has been running this week and will wind up this Saturday, August 11th with a free public performance featuring the faculty and students of the workshop. The concert will take place at 2:00 pm in the Jenkins Theatre on the Mount Royal campus in Calgary.
The Summer Jazz Workshop is coordinated by Calgary jazz bassist John Hyde, a leader in the music community and a regarded educator who is an instructor at Mount Royal’s Music Performance Diploma Program. The workshop faculty is formed by fellow jazz notables Ralf Buschmeyer (guitar), Sheldon Zandboer (piano),Tyler Hornby (drums), Bob Day (trumpet), Jim Brenan (sax) and Craig Brenan (trombone). The 2005 summer program also features special guest faculty member Ralph Bowen, a New York based saxophonist and composer.
Framed around the foundations of jazz such as improvisation, practice techniques, performance skills, and jazz music history, the workshop is geared for students ages 13 or over and offers an intensive week of training as well as performance opportunities such as Saturday’s upcoming concert.
