The Future of Jazz the Focus of the Guelph Jazzfest

The 14th annual Guelph Jazz Festival, known as one of Canada’s most progressive jazz presentations, opens Wednesday and runs through September 9th at various venues. Featured concerts will include Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra with Carla Bley, Anthony Braxton with the Association of Improvising Musicians Toronto, The William Parker Ensemble, and Trio M with Myra Melford, Mark Dresser and Matt Wilson, plus many more.

The future of jazz will be the focus of a three-day jazz colloquium that starts Wednesday Sept. 5 at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre, and is a theme woven into the festival’s musical mix.

CBC Radio will record four concerts for the nationally broadcasted CBC Radio 2 late-evening program The Signal, and U of T Campus radio CIUT-FM will be doing live-to-air broadcasts from the festival again this year, as well as recording for future airings.
