6th Annual All-Canadian Jazz Festival

“a leading showcase of Canada’s burgeoning jazz scene”
Doug Fischer, Ottawa Citizen

The sixth annual All-Canadian Jazz Festival is slated to run September 21, 22, and 23, in downtown Port Hope, Ontario. The festival is known for showcasing the finest emerging and established artists on the Canadian jazz scene, and a range of activities from instructional workshops, the ‘Blow Your Own Horn’ parade, a Big Band Dance, and jazz concerts on the mainstage at Memorial Park.

Kicking off Friday, September 21 with afternoon instructional workshops, the day’s activities are followed by the Friday Night “Party In the Park” featuring acoustic bluesman Harrison Kennedy, and a concert by Juno nominated vocalist Kellylee Evans. On Saturday and Sunday, twelve more of the finest jazz ensembles in Canada featuring such notables as bassist Rosemary Galloway, multiple award-winning saxophonist Mike Murley, and composer/pianist Tom Van Seters, are among the groups scheduled to appear in back-to-back mainstage concerts.

Of special note will be the Saturday night headline concert dedicated to the memory of one of Canada’s leading jazz musicians, keyboard man Doug Riley. Originally slated to perform in a trio format as headliner for the event, Riley passed away last week at the age of 62 following his appearance at the Calgary International Blues Festival. Musicians from across Canada including Dione Taylor, Mike Murley, David Restivo, Lou Pomanti, Ted Quinlan, Kevin Turcotte, Perry White, Jim Vivian, Joel Haynes, and Gord Myers will gather for a feature concert to pay their respect to Riley, an Order of Canada recipient who was named Jazz Organist of the Year for eight years running, and a highly regarded composer, arranger, and producer.
