Season Opener Features the Gallagher/Dyskman Quartet

Cool Jazz will be the tone that kicks off the 2007-08 Regina Jazz Society’s ongoing concert series when the Gallagher/Dyksman Quartet takes the stage on Friday, September 14, at Le Bistro.

A group of seasoned local musicians, the Gallagher/Dyksman Quartet is formed by pianist Jim Gallagher, who at one time served as programmer/emcee for Regina Jazz events and performs in an Oscar Peterson style, bassist Peter Dyksman, who has performed with such notables as Harold Mayburn and Jimmy Witherspoon; guitarist Kris Craig, a versatile player who is currently with soul/funk band Stepchyle; and tenor saxophonist/composer Carter Powley, who’s work has been performed by orchestras from Regina to Kitchener-Waterloo.

Other scheduled concerts for the fall season include the William Carn Quintet (Sept. 28),The RJS 30th Anniversary Special (Oct.19), the Jodi Proznick Quartet (Nov. 17), The Rosemary Galloway Quartet (Nov. 23), a concert featuring local players (Dec.7), and the annual traditional Homecoming Concert, featuring a band of Regina all-stars (Dec. 28).
