Bassist, composer Fisk is touring in support of new album
Bassist Simon Fisk continues his cross-Canada tour in support of his new album, You and Yours, stopping in Alberta to perform dates with the Simon Fisk Trio in Calgary, Edmonton and Medicine Hat. Along with bassist Fisk, the trio will include pianist Chris Gestrin, and drummers Jerry Granelli and Tyler Hornby, who will each perform two dates.
Born and raised on the East Coast, Simon moved to the West Coast in 1995 after finishing a Bachelor of Music degree at St. Francis Xavier University. He quickly became a sought after bassist on the Vancouver jazz scene, performing and recording in a variety of projects. In ’99 Simon connected with Michael Kaeshammer and toured Canada, USA, and Europe with the young boogie/stride pianist.
Relocating to Calgary, Simon set out on his solo career in 2003, releasing two CD’s in a trio format, Trainwrecks (2003), nominated for the Western Canadian Music Award for ‘Outstanding Jazz Recording’, and Intent , nominated for a pair of Leo Awards for ‘Best Video’ and “Best Director’. His latest, You and Yours (2007) sees him heading in a new musical direction with sonic excursions including acoustic grooves, open improvisation, noise and electronics.
