Bassist Colin Gillespie Selected for Young Jazz Showcase
A young student from Nanaimo, B.C. has been selected as one of five jazz musicians from across Canada to perform at the All Canadian Jazz Festival in Port Hope, Ontario.
Music student Colin Gillespie, 17, who is studying bass at Nanaimo’s Wellington Secondary Jazz Academy, was chosen to perform with the TD Canada Trust Young Jazz Showcase during the All Canadian Jazz Festival, after submitting an audition tape.
The all-expenses paid trip will see Gillespie performing with the best young musicians in the nation, who will meet for the first time prior to the festival and perform twice in the following days. Directing the group will be Denny Christianson of Humber College in Toronto.
The All Canadian Jazz Festival runs September 21-23 in Port Hope, and features such headline artists as saxophonist Mike Murley and vocalist Dione Taylor.
