Vocalist Muldaur Channels the Blues Women of the Past

Grammy nominated blues legend Maria Muldaur opens the 10th annual Carma Acoustic Blues Series this Saturday, September 22 at the Epcor Centre in Calgary.

Vocalist Maria Muldaur has mastered the art of capturing the soul of old time blues and jazz. Her last three albums pay tribute to the women pioneers of the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, carrying the essence of days gone by. At a young age Maria was guided by blues greats, Sippie Wallace and Victoria Spivey and their influence paid off. “Midnight at the Oasis” was Grammy-nominated for song of the year in 1974 and since, Maria has continued to impress blues enthusiasts. Maria has worked with many award-winning artists and on her latest album Naughty, Bawdy and Blue Bonnie Raitt lends her vocal talents.

The Carma Acoustic Blues Series is the vision of John Rutherford, the Epcor Centre’s Director of Music Programming, and for the past decade has presented blues greats from around the globe at the intimate Engineered Air Theatre.
