Glenda Rae and The Essential Band visit B.C. Interior
Vancouver contemporary jazz vocalist Glenda Rae and The Essential Band, with Miles Black (piano), Brett Wade (guitar, vocal), Kerry Galloway (bass) and Tony Chamberlist (drums), will appear for two shows at the Vernon Jazz Club on Saturday, Sept. 30th, for an all-ages matinee performance at 3 p.m., and an adults-only concert at 8 p.m.
Glenda Rae is known throughout the Pacific Northwest for her powerful alto voice, with her 4-octave range tinged in classic jazz, soul, R&B, and gospel influences drawing comparisons to artists such as Anita Baker and Annie Lennox. A gifted lyricist and storyteller, Rae has co-composed more than 300 songs with colleague and Essential Band member Miles Black, a well-known pianist, arranger and composer. Known to audiences in Vancouver, L.A. and New York, Rae also has many recordings to her credit, including the 2006 CD Healing Stream and 2007’s The Cocktail Party Vol. 1.
Rae and Black will unveil their new multi-media project they’ve been working on with world-renowned Canadian multi-disciplinary artist James Picard. Entitled The Cocktail Party, Rae and Black will pair their songs with Picard’s watercolour painting collection know as The Cocktail Series, inspired by New York’s cosmopolitan social life. The exhibit opens in October.
The group will also perform at The Minstrel Cafe in Kelowna on Thursday, Sept. 27 and Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek on Friday, September 29.
