Ranee Lee and McGill Jazz Orchestra to Perform this Thursday

The Schulich School of Music’s jazz department will be holding two special fundraising concerts this week, featuring vocalist Ranee Lee, faculty members, and a special blast from the past.

Ranee Lee, an award-winning Canadian jazz vocalist and McGill voice professor, will be singing with the McGill Jazz Orchestra on Thursday, Oct. 4 in her first appearance with the orchestra. All five professors in the jazz department are involved in the Lee concert, with Professor Gordon Foote conducting. The programme will feature a range of songs, from piano-voice duets to big band numbers.

The second will feature the McGill jazz orchestra from 1992, will be performing a 15-year reunion concert on Saturday. The ensemble toured several cities in Europe in 1992, playing the Cork Jazz Festival in Ireland, and have remained highly active and important contributors to the jazz scene since.

Profits from the events will go towards jazz programs and students; the Lee concert benefitting the costly new Visiting Artists Series, while the reunion concert raises funds for the jazz student scholarship bursaries.
