Thompson to Perform Fundraising Concert

Juno award-winning multi-instrumentalist Don Thompson returns to Powell River to perform with musician Walter Martella and his quartet on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Max Cameron Theatre. Joining the two for the performance will be Paul Steenhuis (bass), John Rule (drums), and Paul Cummings (vocals, trombone).

Canadian jazz master Don Thompson is an accomplished performer, composer and educator who plays piano, vibraphone, bass and drums, among other instruments. Thompson grew up in the northern B.C. town and later relocated to Toronto, where is based out of today and keeps a busy schedule locally and internationally.

Powell River’s Walter Martella, who is also adept on a number of instruments, will double on piano and trumpet for the concert, while Thompson will double on vibes and piano. The performance will feature compositions by Martella and Thompson as well as jazz standards.

The event is being held in support of the Powell River Parkinson’s Support Group, who will receive a portion of the proceeds from the concert.
