Instrumental Society of Calgary Features Local Jazz Greats

Calgary saxophonist John Reid is a busy man. Aside from his full-time job as Prairie Regional Director for the Canadian Music Centre at the University of Calgary, he continues to perform on a regular basis.

This Sunday, November 4th, Reid will lead a local quartet including Brian Sharron (piano), John Hyde (bass), and John DeWaal (drums) as the group pays tribute to jazz legend Thelonius Monk.

Thelonius Monk: A Retrospective will feature music from the jazz master’s book, including songs that have become jazz standards such as Straight, No Chaser, Well You Needn’t and Round Midnight. Pianist and composer Monk is noted for his improvisational style and unorthodox approach to jazz.
