Guitarist Tours Western Canada in Support of New Album

Steve Strongman may not be particularly well-known, but that’s about to change with his recent Best New Artist nomination from Toronto’s Maple Blues Awards along with the four nominations he recently received from the Hamilton Music Awards, including Guitarist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Blues album of the Year and Male vocalist of the Year.

The Kitchener-Waterloo native has been playing professionally since the age of 16, touring blues clubs throughout southern Ontario and opening for established blues acts such as Mississippi blues legend Mel Brown, with whom the young musician became friends and often sat in on Brown’s gigs.

Strongman branched out into rock and country, honing his “pick and fingers” playing style and touring across the U.S. with the Guse family, including performing at the infamous Opryland and opening for such greats as Roy Clarke. After moving to L.A. to work with Tal Bachman (brother of Randy) followed by leading his own rock band, Plasticine, touring the U.S. and Europe with recording artist Kazzer, and filling the in-between times with solo appearances in southern Ontario.

Strongman returned to his roots twenty years later, relocating to Hamilton where he’s established himself on the local scene. He recently released his fifth album, Honey (Fallen Sky/ Fontana 2006), and is heading out on tour in support of the album. He’ll be traveling to western Canada with Dave King (drums) and Paul Inson (bass) to appear for several dates:
