Big Bill to Appear in Rare Duo Setting

The Carma Acoustic Blues Series presents another world-class concert next Friday, November 16th when Big Bill Morganfield appears at the Engineered Theatre in the Epcor Centre for Performing Arts.

With a sound rooted in the Chicago blues tradition, Morganfield rarely performs in a duo setting. Calgary audiences will get a priceless glimpse into another facet of the bluesman’s talent at the Epcor next Friday.

Guitarist, songwriter and singer Big Bill Morganfield, was born in Chicago in 1956 into blues royalty as the son of McKinley Morganfield – better known as Muddy Waters. He was raised by his grandmother in southern Florida and now resides in the Atlanta area. It wasn’t until after Water’s death in 1983 that Bill decided to explore his musical heritage.

Since that time he’s become a renowned blues artist in his own right, keeping his father’s legacy alive through the music itself. Touring heavily around the globe appearing at major festivals and clubs, Morganfield has released three albums, his debut Rising Son (1999) which won him the W.C. Handy Award for ‘Best New Blues Artists’, his sophomore release Ramblin Mind, which features Taj Mahal, and Blues in the Blood (2003), an all-original (except for one Muddy Waters cover) Delta blues release.
