Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Honours Oscar Peterson

The Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame announced the new inductees for 2008, including four leading Canadian songwriters, one Founder’s Award, and 23 songs.

Included among the inductees are Alex Kramer, celebrated songwriter of the Big Band era, Francophone songwriter of the Radio Era, André Lejeune, Claude Dubois, whose songs have been performed by French artists around the world and the chart-topping king of pop, Paul Anka.

The Founder’s Award will be presented to Oscar Peterson, legendary jazz pianist and composer and Order of Canada recipient. Peterson is also being recognized for his Canadiana Suite and Hymn to Freedom works.

A gala evening of honours and awards presentations and musical performances is to be held at the Toronto Centre for the Arts on March 1, 2008, marking the fifth annual event.
