Sixth Release For Mocking Shadows Features a Contemporary Sound

Calgary R&B band the Mocking Shadows release their new CD The Sound on Friday, December 14 at Wickham House, Mount Royal College. Opening the show are special guests the 5 Star Affair, Kaley Kinjo and Ryan Bourne.

The Sound is the sixth release for the acclaimed touring group, and breaks away from their R&B roots and steps into a contemporary sound, with flavours of Reggae, Soul, Pop and R&B.

Known for their massive repertoire and contemporary-retro sound, the 7-piece band formed in 1999, and are now considered one of the city’s most accomplished bands. Among their long list of impressive performance credits are The Tragically Hip, ZZ Top, Long John Baldry, 54/40, Wide Mouth Mason, Jann Arden, Lighthouse, The Powder Blues Band, Doug & The Slugs, Trooper, Downchild Blues Band, Reba Macintire, Leanne Rimes, Randy Bachman, and two tours with legendary blues guitarist, B.B. King (2001, 2002).

The Mocking Shadow’s music has also been featured on television’s hit series ‘The Cold Squad’ and ShowTime’s documentary ‘Kink’, and their last three CD’s, Long Way, Caught in the Act and Out of the Blue, have received airplay on over 200 radio stations worldwide. The group won Canadian Musician Magazine’s Talent Search (2003) and garnered nominations in the Prairie Music Awards (2002) and Western Canadian Music Awards (2003, 2004).
