House of Refuge Tour Sets a Gospel Tone
Multiple Juno Award-winning blues musician Jim Byrnes will appear in Edmonton at Festival Place on Saturday, January 19, 2008.
Touring in support of his latest album House of Refuge, Byrnes brings together the music traditions that have influenced his life, the gospel recording featuring songs and stories of deep soul and faith. House of Refuge is considered perhaps the most inspired and soulful album of the actor/musician’s already accomplished career.
Growing up on the north side of St. Louis, Byrnes was surrounded by the likes of Chuck Berry, Johnny Johnson, and Ike and Tina Turner. Over the years Jim has appeared with a virtual who’s who of musical history including Furry Lewis, Henry Townsend, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Taj Mahal, Robert Cray, and Ray Charles.
For the Edmonton concert, the album will be performed live with a top-notch Vancouver band that includes Steve Dawson and Jesse Zubot.
