Calgary-Edmonton Collective to Celebrate Release at the Yardbird

The Yardbird Suite reopens the weekend of January 25th with a full spring program of some of the finest jazz in Canada and beyond.

On Saturday, January 26, the Yardbird will host the Hutchinson Andrew Trio, a piano-based acoustic trio formed by Edmonton pianist Chris Andrew and drummer Sandro Dominelli along with Calgary bassist Kodi Hutchinson. The group will celebrate the release of their new CD, Music Box, a mosaic of original compositions written primarily by pianist Chris Andrew, mixing contemporary swing, Latin, and acoustic grooves.

The trio’s debut album Lost but not forgotten (2005), reached CKUA radio’s top 10 for over a month and reached #3 on Calgary’s CJSW radio for over three months. In addition, CBC Radio put the album on their regular rotation as well as recording them live for air at the 2006 inaugural Canmore International Jazz Festival. The composition, 3 Corners of Emotion, was also featured in the Decidedly Jazz Danceworks production, ¬°Bulla!, which toured Canada over the summer of 2005. The album garnered a 2006 Western Canadian Music Award nomination in the Outstanding Jazz Recording category. More recently, the trio competed for the Galaxie Rising Star Award and GM Grand Prix Award on the mainstage at the 2006 Montreal International Jazz Festival.
