Double Bill to Feature Francois Bourassa Quartet, Nordic Connect
On Thursday, January 10, Torontonians will hear some of the Best in Canadian Jazz when two of the nation’s most recognized jazz ensembles perform at Trane Studio, the newest club on the scene in the Ontario city. Headlining the double bill are pianist Francois Bourassa in Quartet, and Nordic Connect, featuring the Jensen sisters, Ingrid and Christine.
This year’s recipient of the prestigious Oscar Peterson Award at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, pianist and composer François Bourassa leads a quartet featuring André Leroux (saxophone), Guy Boisvert (bass) and Philippe Melanson (drums). The group performs in support of their latest recording, Rasstones, adding the seventh release in Bourassa’s acclaimed discography. The quartet has toured on three continents, including recent concerts in Beijing, China, at major jazz festivals around the globe, and at legendary venues such as Dizzy’s Club (Jazz at Lincoln Center, NY) last June, during a memorable Québec jazz series .
Led by the talented Jensen sisters, Nordic Connect is a blend of Scandinavian and North American cultures. Canadian sisters Ingrid (trumpet, flugelhorn) and Christine (alto, soprano saxophones) Jensen are joined by Maggi Olin (piano), Mattias Welin (bass) and Jon Wikan (drums) for a concert celebrating the release of the Nordic Connect’s debut release Flurry, which hit the market in February of 2007.
