Pollack and his Band to Travel Across Province for Concert Dates

Harmonica man Richie Pollack and his band appear for a pair of Alberta dates this weekend, in the northern town of Westlock on Jan. 11, and his hometown of Calgary on Jan 12.

Joining Richie for the shows are three leading Calgary-based musicians well-known to the jazz community, drummer Tyler Hornby, bassist Kodi Hutchinson and guitarist Ralf Buschmeyer.

On Friday Jan. 11 Pollack will perform at the Westlock Cultural Arts Society, the town of Westlock (about 40 minutes NW of Edmonton). The following night Pollack and his band will appear at Beat Niq in Calgary.

Considered by many to be Calgary’s “cross-harp ambassador”, Richie Pollack is a diatonic harmonica player known for his versatility and unique style, blending his influences from New Orleans rock to African influenced instrumental, “vibey” gospel to down and dirty blues.

For the last 20 years Richie fronted such bands as The Jump Daddies and the Real Deal before stepping out as leader, and shared the stage with such names as Shannon Powell (Harry Connick Jr.), Charlie Wood, Billy Branch and Amos Garrett. He has also appeared as guest on recordings by Donald Ray Johnson and Mike Clark.

Richie’s debut CD release Stew was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award for ‘Best Blues Album’ (2006).
