Vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia Tours in Support of her New Album

Canadian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia returns to Calgary Feb. 21 to perform at Southwood United Church.

Backed by her 5-piece ensemble of tabla, harmonium, guitar, bass and tanpura, the Juno award-winning artist will perform selections from her new album Wanderlust, featuring original ghazals and Punjabi folk songs.

Wanderlust’s distinctly Indian flavour also features sounds of Saharan blues, jazz improvisation and Portuguese fado. Three of the songs were recorded in Lisbon, with members of fado sensation Mariza‚Äôs band backing Kiran, the result a stunning blend of the two styles, creating a compelling harmony through the beautiful yearning of their similar themes and poetic lyrical styles.

Kiran and her ensemble will appear in Calgary just two days after they perform and record with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and before they head to Vancouver for a featured show as part of the ongoing programming for the 2010 Cultural Olympiad.
