Jazz Education Only Part of The Faculty’s Vast Repertoire

Some of the finest jazz in town will be heard this weekend at Beat Niq jazz club as educators and performers from the Faculty of Jazz at Mount Royal College take to the stage.

Each of the faculty members, which include Ralf Buschmeyer (guitar), Jim Brenan (saxophone), Sheldon Zandboer (piano) John Hyde (bass) and John DeWaal (drums), are highly regarded band-leaders, recording artists and composers who will be showcasing their original music for the performances.

Performances to Benefit Bob Day Memorial Scholarship

On Wednesday, March 5th, Beat Niq once again hosts jazz from the music program at the college with the Mount Royal College Jazz Combo 2 and the Mount Royal College Large Jazz Ensemble, who will perform an evening of Jazz music ranging from Bebop, Post-Bop, and Latin Jazz.

Cover charge for the evening’s performances will be by donation ($5.00 minimum) with all proceeds will go to the Bob Day Memorial Scholarship. Bob Day, flugelhorn player, composer, long-time Mount Royal educator and giant in Canadian jazz, died last September at the age of 61.
