Jacobson Visits Home Province to Perform

Jazz trombonist Al Jacobson travels from Germany, where he is on the faculty of Frankfurt Music Hochschule, to bring his great sound to the stage at Beat Niq on Saturday, March 8. Joining the artist in the quintet format are Bob Tildesley (trumpet) Sheldon Zandboer (piano) John Hyde (bass) Tyler Hornby (drums).

Jacobson, originally from Edmonton, boasts a lengthy resume that includes performing with such prestigious orchestras such as the Edmonton Symphony, the Baden Baden Philharmonic (conductor, soloist), and the European Philharmonie (conductor, soloist), as well as large ensemble work with the Tommy Banks Big Band and numerous pit orchestras for theatre and dance.

Performing in a wide variety of musical contexts, Jacobson has performed at festivals throughout Canada, Europe, Scandanavia and Asia, sharing the stage with such greats as Dave Liebman, Keith Copeland, Lee Konitz, Lew Tabakin, Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Shew and many more.

An highly regarded educator, Jacobson is a recognized adjudicator and has provided workshops/seminars to schools throughout Western Canada and Germany. He currently teaches jazz trombone, vocals and ensembles at the Hochschule fur Musik in Mainz, and the Frankfurt Musik Hochschule (University of Performing Arts). Mr. Jacobson has also been on the faculty of the Peter Cornelius Conservatory (Mainz) and as Visiting Professor at the Mannheim University of Performing Arts.
