Trio’s Sophomore Release Features Saxophone Legend Ralph Bowen

Calgary’s newest jazz label Chronograph Records celebrates the release of the new Hutchison Andrew Trio project, Music Box, on Friday, March 21 at Beat Niq.

Music Box marks the sophomore release for the Hutchison Andrew Trio and features the contemporary piano based trio at their finest, with nine original compositions. Special guest, Juno Award winning tenor saxophonist Ralph Bowen (Horace Silver, Free Trade), lends his creative voice and virtuosity to the sound.

The Hutchinson Andrew Trio is formed by three leading Alberta jazz musicians, Calgary bassist Kodi Hutchinson, Edmonton pianist Chris Andrew and drummer Sandro Dominelli. Founded by Hutchinson and Andrew in 2002, the trio has quickly become known across the nation for its top-drawer original music and has put a stamp on the Western Canadian jazz sound.

The trio will be joined by saxophonist Ralph Bowen as they head out on tour in support of the new release for the summer of 2008, including an appearance at the prestigious Montreal Jazz Festival.

Hutchinson Andrew Trio’s debut album Lost But Not Forgotten firmly placed the group on the Canadian jazz map, receiving airplay across the nation and garnering a nomination for the Western Canadian Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Recording (2006). The track 3 Corners of Emotion was featured in the Decidedly Jazz Danceworks production of Bulla! that toured Canada in 2005.

Releasing Music Box across Canada in January, Chronograph Records adds another title to their growing catalogue of high quality Western Canadian artists.
