Cheney Lambert Sextet Performs Music of Legendary Musician

Jazz Regina presents A Tribute to Blue Mitchell, featuring the Cheney Lambert Sextet, at Le Bistro on Friday, April 4th.

Joining trumpeter Lambert are Derek Leugner (tenor saxophone), Brandon A. Smith (organ, keyboards), Sam Minevich (guitar), Graham Purse (bass), Bryce Wiles (drums).
The sextet takes will perform the music of bop/funk trumpeter, Blue Mitchell, including selections from his Blue Note days as well as exploring the funky side of the master’s work.

The presentation is the second outing Lambert has taken as leader paying tribute to a great master, the first being the Tribute to Freddie Hubbard, which the trumpeter launched last year for Regina Jazz fans.

Cheney Lambert is familiar to audiences for his work with the funk/soul group Stepchyle, with whom he continues to perform. He recently joined a second group, Rory Allen’s “Tribute to the King” show. Other performance credits inclue The Temptations, The Jordanaires, Theresa Sokyrka, Petula Clarke, Lew Soloff, and the legendary Bob Moyer Big Band.
