Calgary Based Group Releases Debut CD

World/fusion ensemble Cumako release their new CD No Borders on Thursday & Friday, April 10 & 11 at 9:00 p.m. at Broken City in Calgary.

Cumako features an all-nations blend of Venezuelan/Afro-Cuban/Flamenco rhythms for an eclectic world sound and sophisticated Jazz improvisation.

Formed by Luis “el Pana” (Venezuela – percussion, vocals), Ai Hagiwara (Japan – flute, keyboards), Steve “Jose” Williams (Bolivia – saxophone, clarinet, keyboards), Oscar Coronado (Mexico -trumpet, ,vocals), Mark Johnson (Canada – acoustic, electric bass), Tynan Groves (Canada – guitar), Ruben Boccaranda (Venezuela – drums) and Raul Tabera (Cuba – percussion), Cumako will be joined by special guests, Luis “Emilio” Rios, Alberto San Martin, The Sinistrio, Los Morenos, and Celine Lacoste for the two nights of music.
Their intensely energetic rhythm section combined with their powerful world class horn section create a unique, rich fusion of sound, with percussive influences from the cumbia, cha-cha, salsa, Spanish flamenco and jazz, and inspired by the musical roots of Venezuela, Mexico, Japan, Canada, Bolivia, and Cuba.
