First Concert of the Season to Feature West Coast Jump Blues

One of Alberta’s most legendary blues venues kicks off its 2008-09 season when Blues on the Bow features The Insomniacs on Saturday, May 3rd.

Blues on the Bow is located in Bow Island’s Bow theatre in the southern Alberta hamlet of Bow Island and is known for its top-drawer programming and listening style atmosphere.

Performing on vintage instruments and channeling a blues style from the 1950s, west coast jump blues band The Insomniacs are formed by Vyasa Dodson (guitar), Dean Mueller (bass), Dave Melyan (drums) and Alex Shakeri (keyboards).

The group’s original mix of blues, swing, jump, and roots rock & roll have seen their music rise to the top of the blues charts and capture a Muddy Award from Oregon’s prestigious Cascade Blues Association for Best New Act (2006) and Best Contemporary Act (2007). They’ve also picked up a nomination for the the Blues Foundation’s Best New Artist Debut Award (2008), and their song Crime Scene named one of the top 20 contemporary blues songs for 2007 by BluesCritic.com.
