Edmonton Octet Features Music from 1967 Duke Ellington Film
On Friday & Saturday, May 2 &3, the Yardbird Suite presents “An Intimate Evening with Duke Ellington,” featuring The Yardbird Suite Allstars, an octet of leading Edmonton jazz musicians.
The Yardbird Suite Allstars set out to recreate the music from a January 23, 1967, film that was broadcast on Danish television featuring two sets of Duke Ellington profiled in solo, trio and octet formats, offering a glimpse into the intimate side of Ellington’s music.
Well-deserving of their collective title, The Yardbird Suite Allstars are highly respected musicians, composers and industry members who’ve contributed enormously to the strength of the western Canadian jazz scene as well as played integral roles at the Yardbird Suite.
