Students Ready to Perform After Months of Rehearsals
Regina jazz fans have an opportunity to listen to some of its finest music students in a large ensemble when the Jazz Regina Student All-Star Big Band performs on Monday, May 5th at the Riddell Centre.
Under the direction of Brent Ghiglione and Ian Tulloch, the Big Band program was based on concepts used by music programs that involve jazz masters guiding students in the large ensemble settings. The band is formed by local high school students who rehearse from October through April. The young musicians also gain the opportunity to attend private clinics with visiting artists of the Jazz Regina program.
Brent Ghiglione is a well-known and respected music educator who
built an internationally recognized music program at Campbell
Collegiate. He is the founder and developer of the Prairielands Jazz
Camp, which is now in its 15th year. Brent is currently Director of
Bands for the University of Regina and serves throughout Canada as
an active clinician and adjudicator.
Ian Tulloch has started his 5th year teaching school music. During
this time he has taught High School Jazz/Concert Band/Elementary
Jazz & Concert Bands. This year Ian will be teaching undergrad tuba
students at the University of Regina. For the past 8 years Ian has
been active as a performer both on tuba and bass trombone with the
RSO, The Bob Moyer Big Band, Laserblade Orchestra and The New
Collection.
