CD Release Celebration to be Broadcast Live on the Net
One of Calgary’s busiest jazz musicians, bassist and composer Simon Fisk celebrates the official release of his new CD Vague Hotels, on June 13 & 14 at Beat Niq. The album marks Fisk’s fourth release as leader.
Vague Hotels features the artist in a trio setting with Edmonton pianist Chris Gestrin and San Francisco based drum master Jerry Granelli. The album showcases eleven new Fisk compositions plus one track of free improvisation for an atmospheric, highly improvised form of music, merging top-drawer contemporary jazz with electronica to create multi-dimensional soundscapes.
Performing professionally since the early 90’s, Simon Fisk is an artist who is making a difference not only with his cutting edge sound but also with various projects that include his jazz label Plunge Records. The label’s growing catalogue of artists features such names as saxophonist Gerry Hebert and guitarist Gord Grdina, along with Fisk’s discography as leader, Trainwrecks (2002), Intent (2005), the WCMA nominated You and Yours (2007) and his new Vague Hotels, (2008) which are all available on the label’s website www.plungerecords.com. Also included are Fisk’s various ensemble works such as Uncommon Gold and The Fisk Brothers.
His latest endeavour, Plunge TV, is a new HD video streaming company that films live jazz events and broadcasts them in real time around the globe on the internet. Plunge TV will broadcast the upcoming Vague Hotels CD release celebration. Viewers can tune in to the live cast starting at 9:00 pm MST at www.plungetv.com.
