Master Musician Appears in Quartet for Club Performance
Winnipeg born bassist Dave Young’s is one of the nation’s most in-demand musicians, performing with many of the world’s greatest jazz artists, as well as with his own ensembles.
Young appears in quartet tonight with William Sperandei (trumpet), Gary Williamson (piano) and Ethan Ardelli (drums) at the Rex Hotel in Toronto.
Equally adept in both acoustic jazz and classical music, Dave was the Principal Double Bassist with the Edmonton and Winnipeg Symphonies and has shared the stage with a lengthy list of international jazz stars including regular appearances for over 25 years with Canadian piano legend Oscar Peterson. Other credits include performing/recording with Clark Terry, Joe Williams, Oliver Jones, Rob McConnell, Cedar Walton, Peter Appleyard, Ed Bickert, Ranee Lee, Don Thompson, and James Moody.
With an extensive recording career, Dave has been a part of many award-winning albums and received the 1993 Juno Award for “Best Mainstream Jazz Recording” for Fables and Dreams, several Jazz Report Awards including “Acoustic Bassist of the Year” in 1996, 1997 and 1998, and “Musician of the Year” in 1997 and 1998. He was selected “Bassist of the Year” in 2003 to 2006 by the National Jazz Awards. In 2007 Dave Young was appointed to the Order of Canada for his contribution to the Musical Arts.
