Charity Concert to Support Cambodian Programs
Canadian jazz pianist and vocalist Diana Krall will stop in Singapore along her fall tour to perform an exclusive pre-Formula One concert on September 27th. The Keppel Island concert is in support of Caring for Cambodia, a charity that in turn supports more than 5, 600 students, 90 teachers, five schools, a teacher training centre and the first of three kindergartens in Cambodia.
Born in Nanaimo, B.C., Diana Krall first studied classical music before pursuing a jazz career. Krall has since risen to stardom and met enormous success, capturing a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for her sixth album, When I Look Into Your Eyes, also the first jazz recording in 25 years to be nominated for Album of the Year.
A recognized jazz master around the globe, Krall made the move to cross over into the pop market in 2000, with her 2001 Look of Love release topping Billboard charts, going quintuple platinum in Canada (the first Canadian artist to achieve this), and capturing three Juno’s for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. Her most recent releases include The Girl in the Other Room (2004) and From This Moment On (2006).
Married to pop star Elvis Costello in 2003, Diana briefly took time off to give birth to the couple’s twin sons in 2006. She resumed touring shortly thereafter and is currently appearing at major jazz festivals across Europe this summer, with Asian tour dates announced for the fall.
