Group Performs Hendrix Compositions As Arranged By Gil Evans

Juno award-winning jazz great Hugh Fraser leads his large ensemble through the works of Jimi Hendrix on July 11 & 12 at Cellar Jazz in Vancouver.
The evening program will feature Hendrix compositions as arranged by Gil Evans for his orchestra, who recorded the album in 1974 in New York City. The project has recently become available once again.
With Fraser leading the ensemble from his trombone chair, the group will perform transcriptions from the original album plus several new works, showcasing the rich textures of the trumpets, flutes, bass clarinet, french horn, tuba, and the rarified guitar sound of Hendrix.
Hugh Fraser’s large ensemble is formed by Brad Muirhead (bass trombone, tuba), John Korsrud, Lorae Farrell, Bill Clark (trumpets), Cory Weeds, Bill Runge, Melissa Hubert (winds), Steve Denroche, (french horn), Sean Cronin (bass), Olaf de Sheild (guitar, vocal), Daryl Bennett (drums) and Jack Duncan (percussion).

Canadian born composer and arranger Gil Evans is renowned for his groundbreaking arrangements and his extensive work with legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis.
