Zydeco Giant Appears at Legendary Alberta Venue

Grammy award-winning artist Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience appears at the venerable Blues at the Bow on Friday, August 22nd. The Bow Theatre is located in the southern Alberta hamlet of Bow Island.

An 8th generation Louisiana Creole, Terrance Simien has been performing for more than two decades, becoming an internationally recognized artist and Cultural Ambassador for his home state. touring in over 40 countries.

Simian has toured over 40 countries, he was the first Zydeco artist to perform in Cuba (2005) and upon invitation from Carnegie Hall (2006) journeyed to Mali, West Africa to present “Creole for Kidz & The History of Zydeco” as part of a distance learning program ‘Global Encounters.’ 2007 saw him participate in a Creole cultural exchange tour to Mauritius, Seychelles and Rodrigues.

Simien is said to be “blessed with an extraordinary talent that expresses the deepest human emotions through the original instrument: The Voice.”
His distinct blend of Zydeco-roots- New Orleans funk-reggae flavored- Afro-Caribbean-world music has won him many accolades.
He’s shared studio and stage with Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder, Los Lobos, Keith Richards, Art Neville, the Meters, Alan Toussaint, Paul Simon and Dave Matthews Band to name a few; and has also has built an extensive list of film credits including the blockbuster hit “The Big Easy”, as well TV movies and advertising credits.
A mentor to fellow and emerging artists, Terrance was seen on the HBO documentary film “The Music in Me: Children’s Recitals from Classical to Latin, Jazz to Zydeco. ” In 2008 The Louisiana Office of Tourism selected him as one of their Louisiana celebrities to be featured in national television commercials and print ads. He is currently working on a children’s book about Creole culture and Zydeco music history.

Simien is a two term Board of Governor for The Recording Academy (the Grammy Awards organization) and in 2007 helped to establish the new Grammy voting category for “Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album.”
