Cuban Rhythms Heat Up Autumn Night
Eleye de Cuba, a seven-piece group from the coastal city of Trinidad, Cuba, will perform at the Wascana Ballroom at the Regina Inn on Friday, September 12.
The popular ensemble is touring Alberta and Saskatchewan for the second year running, having toured the area in 2007 and garnering many new fans for their rich blend of traditional and contemporary Latin and Afro-Cuban musical styles encompassing salsa, son, trova, bolero, and jazz. The group performs traditional songs as well as their own original compositions.
Led by guitarist and guiro player Chichi Martinez and under Music Director Lachi Najarro (flute, saxophone), the group is formed by Liliett Alarcon (vocals, maracas), Anselmo de Jesús Rabi (tres), Guillermo Galon (timbales, percussion), Joel Oviedo (congas) and Joel Bordon (string bass).
Guest percussionist David Lopez Garabito joins the ensemble for the tour. Garabito is one of Cuba’s foremost conga masters.
