Guitarist Crosses Canada on Tour

Award-winning Flamenco guitarist Javier Conde tours Canada for his first time, stopping in Calgary to make an appearance at the University Theatre on Friday, September 19th. Joining Conde for the performance are vocalist Zaira Gomez, dancer Claire Marchand and guitarists Jose Antonio Conde and Juan Manuel Moreno.

At just 19 years of age, Conde has gained a wide reputation as the “Wunderkind” of the flamenco guitar. Born in 1988 in Caceres, Spain, he began playing guitar at the tender age of 4, first studying with his father Jose Antonio Conde (a regarded flamenco guitarist in his own right) and going on to study with legendary Grandmaster Andrés Batista. By the age of 8, Javier was performing publicly in his hometown and soon appeared internationally, sharing the stage with such flamenco notables as Manolo Sanlucar,Victor Monge “Serranito”, Enrique de Melchor, Lebrijano and José Mercé, among others.

In 2003 Javier released his first solo CD, which spawned invitations from leading flamenco and classical guitar festivals and competitions across Europe, capturing numerous awards including the first place at the prestigious ‘Bordón Minero’ at the festival of La Unión at age 15. He’s since released eight more albums and gathered several more awards including the Competition “Ateneo de Córdoba” (2002), “Paco de Lucena” (2002), Flamenco Guitar International Competition “Ciudad de Jaen” (2003), Flamenco Guitar National Competition “Torre del Cante” (2004) and “Bordón Minero” XLIV International Competition “Cante de las Minas” La Unión (2004).
