Singer to Appear With Leading Calgary Jazz Musicians

Calgary vocalist Sherry Kennedy appears tonight at 9:00 pm at Mikey’s Juke Joint & Eatery with an All-Star band including Derek Stoll (keyboards), John Hyde (bass), Pat Belliveau (saxophone) and Steve Foster (drums). Sherry and quartet will perform a wide range of jazz and blues, featuring Sherry’s original compositions and familiar favourites from the Great American Songbooks.

Singer, songwriter and actor Sherry Kennedy has been entertaining audiences for most of her life. The internationally acclaimed artist is perhaps best known for her powerful voice, but also boasts an impressive list of credits as a songwriter and actor. Her wide background in blues, jazz, country, gospel, funk, musical theatre have melded into a highly polished and well-rounded artist, her chameleon-like ability and strong interpretive skills a complex mix defining her distinct style.

Sherry has performed across Canada, the US and Europe in a variety of settings and range of formats from duos to combos, Big Band to musical theatre. A veteran in the recording studio, Sherry has sung on numerous jingles and contributed to countless television, radio and artist projects.

Her growing discography of recordings includes four CDs, Shades of Jazz and Blues (2007); Reflections of Christmas (2003); Ordinary Woman (1997) and Don’t Wait (1996); which included two hit singles, Rockies in the Rain (Tom Wilson), which skyrocketed to #1 on Europe’s indie Country charts; and My, My, My (Sherry Kennedy), which was re-released in 2005 and remained at the top of the European charts for over 40 weeks. In 2006, Sherry’s self-titled EP was released, featuring three of Sherry’s hit songs, Kissin’ My Worries Goodbye, I Need a Man and At the Prairie’s Edge.

Sherry’s songwriting talents were recognized by the MIAOTW (Major Independent Artists of the World) with the Songwriting Achievement Award (2006) for Kissin’ My Worries Goodbye.

As an actor, Sherry’s credits are extensive and include musical theatre as well as writing, producing and starring in her own theme productions. Included in her acting credits are several years spent representing Alberta as the Official Klondike Kate for Edmonton Klondike Days, touring Canada and the US promoting Canadian tourism.

Inspiring audiences with her energetic and mesmerizing performances, Sherry has been described as “sparkling” and “dynamic,” while her “rich and beautiful voice will leave you breathless.”
