The second annual ‘ONE IS THE WATER (not the fish)’ Festival of Creative Music runs October 22-25 at Beat Niq in Calgary. Featuring 13 artists who perform in six different ensembles, the musicians will explore musical boundaries through improvising harmony and melody in group settings.
Percussionist and composerJerry Granelli and his son, bassist J. Anthony Granelli, will headline the event. Fellow headliners include Edmonton’s Modo Trio with Craig Brenan (trombone, electronics), Jeff Johnson (bass), and Bill George; Calgary’s Sinistrio with Jon Mays (drums), Steve Fletcher (organ) and Jeff Drummond (guitar); Calgary’s Baxter with Aaron Young (guitar), Tyler Hornby (drums) and Simon Fisk (bass); Vancouver’s Crackling with Kenton Loewen (voice, guitar), Gord Grdina (guitar), Dan Gaucher (drums) and Simon Fisk (bass); and New Improvised Collective Ensemble (N.I.C.E. ensemble) with Jerry Granelli (drums), J. Anthonly Granelli (electric, piccolo bass), Gordon Grdina (guitar, oud), Simon Fisk (bass, cello) and Kenton Loewen (drums).
The concept of One is the Water (not the fish) is bringing together like-minded creative spirits to create music spontaneously in a surrender of one’s opinions and musical judgements (the fish), to the greater creative spirit (the water).
All shows will be streamed live on the net (HD Video) and can be viewed on Plunge TV www.plungerecords.com/?plungetv.
Tickets are available at the door.
