Virtuoso Guitarists Blend Cultures & Musical Styles

Two of the world’s most gifted acoustic artists come together on one stage for the Epcor Centre’s BD&P World Music Series on Friday, February 6, at 8 pm at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary.

Jorge Strunz & Ardeshir Farah are the innovators of an entirely new expression for the acoustic guitar that is described as a cross between Flamenco and world fusion.

Strunz, who is from Costa Rica, and Farah from Iran, create an exotic hybrid style characterized by highly rhythmic, improvisation-rich, original compositions. Their virtuoso music has profoundly influenced guitarists worldwide.

Performing together since 1979 and winning Billboard’s World Music Album of the Year and a Grammy nomination, the group has also spent months in the top of Billboard’s World Music charts. In both 1994 and in 1998, Strunz received two Presidential awards from the government of Costa Rica for his cultural contributions.
