MacLachlin to Perform with Leading Calgary Jazz Musicians
Calgary pianist, composer, singer and educator Lorna MacLachan appears in concert on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Carlson’s on MacLeod in High River, in support of her recent CD release Telegraphy (Indie 2008). Joining MacLachlan are leading Calgary jazz musicians, saxophonist Rich Harding, bassist John Hyde, drummer Robin Tufts, and guitarist Keith Smith.
Telegraphy features MacLachlin in both instrumental and vocal settings, as well as her original compositions – a personal account of her relationship with people and the world around her, including the commissioned piece Water Music, created for the Sturgess Architecture design for the City of Calgary Water Centre. The album follows MacLauchlan’s earlier CD releases, Two Trees (2007) and Jigsaw (Indie 1988).
The talented composer has also been commissioned for works for dance companies Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and Springboard Dance Collectives; theatre companies Theatre Calgary and Lunchbox Theatre; and Television and Radio ( CBC, Access).
Lorna has a graduate degree in Composition, an Education degree, and as well as being a freelance pianist/composer, she teaches Choral, Jazz Choir and Jazz Band at Western Canada High School.
