Jane Bunnett & the Spirits of Havana to Headline Event

Hermann’s Jazz Club is launching its 1st annual Latin Jazz Festival from Friday, Feb. 20 to Sunday, Feb. 22 at the long-standing jazz venue in Victoria, B.C.

Headlining the event are two leading Canadian Latin Jazz artists, with saxophonist Jane Bunnett featured on Friday, Feb. 22, and Adonis Puentes on Saturday, Feb. 23. Both concerts begin at 8:00 pm. Sunday evening features an open jam session at 6:00 pm.

Juno award winning soprano saxophonist, flutist and bandleader Jane Bunnett kicks off the festival with her top drawer ensemble, The Spirits of Havana, featuring Larry Kramer (trumpet), and Cuban artists Elio Villa Franco (piano), Fransisco Mela (drums) and Yunior Terry (bass). Jane Bunnett’s latest release, Embracing Voices, has been nominated for a Juno Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year.

Cuban born and now Vancouver based vocalist, composer and percussionist Adonis Puentes performs his original music as well as traditional Cuban music. Joining Puentes are Cuban percussionist Gilberto Moreaux,Tijuana based jazz pianist Tureya Mareya, Panamanian percussionist Humberto Mendoza, and local greats Noah Becker (saxophone), and Sean Drabbit (bass).
