Saxophonist Warren Hill Dominates with 3 Awards

Canada’s Smooth Jazz Award winners were announced last night at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

Toronto born, Colorado based Saxophonist Warren Hill topped the awards by capturing the ‘Wind Instrumentalist of the Year,’ ‘Best Original Composition’ and ‘Album of the Year for ‘La Dolce Vita’ (co-written by Nathan East and Sam Purkin). This makes six awards in total the talented musician has won since the the start of the program in 2005.

International artists to win awards were multi-instrumentalist Brian Culbertson who picked up ‘International Instrumentalist of the Year’ and Seal won ‘International Vocalist,’ while Fourplay won in the ‘Group’ Category.

Flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook picked up ‘Guitarist of the Year’ for the third time, having taking home awards in 2006 and 2008.

Toronto’s Daniela Nardi won her first Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for ‘Female Vocalist of the Year.’

Winning the George Benson Lifetime Achievement award was guitarist Earl Klugh, following in the footsteps of previous winners such as Spyro Gyra and Lee Ritenour.
