Afro-Cuban Sensation Performs in Calgary

Miami-based, two-time Grammy-nominated Tiempo Libre appears as part of the BD& P World Music ongoing concert series. The group performs at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary on Tuesday, June 16th at 8pm.

One of the hottest young Latin bands today, the Afro-Cuban group’s sound is built on a pairing of traditional Cuban styles and contemporary sounds, the 7-piece band performing a fresh take on timba, a dance-inducing, high-voltage form of Latin jazz and the seductive rhythms of son.

The talented musicians were all classically trained at La ENA, Cuba’s premiere conservatory in Havana, during a time when it was illegal to listen to American songs on the radio. Now based out of the U.S., the group is a hit in America and abroad.
