Beat Niq Jazz & Social Club
Beat Niq Jazz Revitalization Plan
Calgary’s premiere jazz club, Beat Niq, is threatened with closure due to the economic slump felt in the city. With the threat of the doors closing, the Calgary jazz community is rallying to raise funds for the club to keep the venue in operation for many years to come.
Owned by the Calgary based couple, Rob & Connie Young, the club and it’s sister restaurant, Bistro Piq Niq, have been a staple on the jazz scene since 1997, presenting hundreds of top-notch jazz artists from across the nation (and beyond) on it’s stages. While Bistro Piq Niq features jazz vocal duos weekly, Beat Niq presents full ensembles in it’s downstairs location that is often compared to a New York jazz club.
Amongst the strategies devised to save the club from closure are a membership which entitles the bearer to a host of benefits, including cover charge discounts, seating reservations, advance schedules for upcoming concerts, newsletters, exclusive members-only presentations and special menu promotions. Various memberships are available:
1 year – $80
2 years – $150
5 years – $350
Lifetime – $1000
Also planned is a special gala to be held September 10, 11 & 12. Tickets for the event are $100, which includes a 1 year membership (tickets are $50 for current members). The three evenings will feature some of the finest jazz musicians on the Calgary scene, with the Allistair Elliott Quintet, Jeremy Coates Quartet, John Hyde Quartet, Johnny Summers Quartet, Karl Schwonik Quartet, Ralf Buschmeyer Quartet, Rick Climans Trio, Rubim de Toledo Quartet, Sillan & Young, Stefano Valdo Trio, Tim Tamashiro Duo, Tyler Hornby Quartet and Verismo.
To purchase tickets to the gala or to purchase memberships, please call the club at 403-263-1650.
