Guitarist Michael Powers Considered the “Future of the Blues
Five-time blues award nominee Michael Powers performs tonight at the Engineered Air Theatre, kicking off the 2009-10 Carma Acoustic Blues Series at Calgary’s Epcor Centre for Performing Arts.
Described as a meld of blues giant Muddy Waters and Rock & Roll legend Jimi Hendrix, Michael Powers was raised in Bayonne, New Jersey. He received his first guitar at age 7, going on to master his instrument and develop his own distinct sound along with a broad swath of styles. Michael launched his career as a teen, when two weeks before finishing high school he was hired to work with blues icon James Cotton.
Since that time he’s played with such noted musicians as Chuck Berry, The Grateful Dead and Bo Didley, released three albums of originals and covers, as well as developed a reputation as “the future of the blues.” click to read more Michael Powers
